Introduction

Any feedback from the week?
Opening prayer
Matthew 6:11 ESV
Give us this day our daily bread,
Fourth petition - focus on us
My week and lack of prayerlessness

Give us

Notice that the emphasis is not on me but “us”
This what we should be praying for Christian brothers and ourselves

Daily

Key interpretation is to get into the worldview of original audience
What would they have understood by this prayer?
Each family had to make their own bread
Process of making bread - 2-3 hours every day to make bread for family of five
Does this mean that we are exempt from making bread? Example of manna?
How long does it take to grow and make the items needed to make bread?
We are praying that God will constantly provide, that we would look to Him for provision for everything
Be thankful for our own industry when gathering resources, knowing that God is the provider of our ability

Bread

Notice the height/ambition of other prayers
This is not seeking to settle for second best
Conviction that we are to find contentment and enjoyment in the simple provision
Example of manna and meat
When we are enjoying the simple, we can be more thankful for the more lavish, but not dependent on it; VERY IMPORTANT
God is not against the lavish, but against the expectation and desire for them as source of happinees

Conclusion

Look at life and priorities and where your longings are
Look at your dependence on God
Reflect on the account of manna and meat
